First Friday
(Recycled Project)
First Friday is an art show held on the first Friday of every month in Lubbock. At this show, food vendors, musicians, artists and more, come to display their special talent to the Lubbock people. This year, I had the opportunity to have my art on display in my first ever fashion exhibit.
Recycled Project: For the Recycled Project, I made a garment entirely out of duct tape, newspaper, grocery bags and velcro. I formed the paper to a fashion figure until I got the shape that I wanted. I did this by using my draping and flat pattern skills that I learned in the design program at Texas Tech. Once the base of the dress was made, I cut the handles off of the grocery bags and glued them one-by-one around the bottom of the dress. I did this to create a ruffled effect. The dress is a nighttime/cocktail dress and represents the innovative thought process of how to make the fashion industry more sustainable.
