Summer of 2019 - 2021, I had the opportunity to work for Karli Gillum, who had the dream to start a

swimwear company. After years in the fashion industry and years of travel, she was displeased

with how her bathing suits fit and fell apart. Her idea was to create a swimsuit that was 

perfect for vacation because it was stylish and chic, but also because it fit every body type

perfectly.  This was the beginning of VayK Swim.

Summer of 2019 we were in the very early stages of designs. My role was to meet with the

manufacturer on a weekly basis and check the progress of the designs, the fit of the swimwear,

and discuss any adjustments being made to the patterns. Outside of meetings I was in charge

of consulting with manufacturers about different fabrics, ordered swatches and material for the

suits, created technical spec sheets, and laid out a budget of what was being spent on Excel.

After the first suit was finalized, Karli decided to go ahead with the selling process, where we researched labels and legalities regarding the suits. Once that was sorted, I became responsible for the digital media. This began with the Instagram where I took pictures posing in the swimsuit, found content from other Instagram users, edited photos, and created a layout of posts that coincided with a central theme. I was also in charge of creating the website for the suit and making sure it was functional, visually appealing and easy to use for the customers.

I currently post on the account daily and am working on building a following by engaging with users, other accounts, and promoting the suit on my personal page.
